Are ferrets commonly deaf?

Most ferrets are not deaf. However, if your ferret has white head and colored body or is a blaze he/she may be deaf. A blaze ferret is a ferret that has as a white stripe down its head. (Most blazes also have white mitts and bibs.) Many of these ferrets are deaf. Very young deaf ferrets (under 4 months) tend to startle easily and be a little 'nippy', but once they become comfortable with the world around them, they are a 'normal' as any ferret can be expected to be.
