CommentsI have a ferret cage to give away. Houses 2. If interested please call me at work, 201-750-7004x436. I used to be in AFC 7 years ago. My last ferret passed away this winter. I go to Long Island 3 weekends per month. Email with an address and I can drop off the cage. mwood@crestron.com
CommentsHi i found this site off google and it looks good. I have ben researching ferret care and other information about ferrets lately. I have wanted one since about 7th grade (im in 10th now) and my mom says im responsible to have one (which i no i am) but we might move soon.. the question is will a ferret survive a 8 hour move?
CommentsCan anyone recommend the "perfect" ferret cage. Right now we are using a modified version of a store bought model. We cant use solid shelves due to one ferrets potty habits. (why the other two put up with her I just dont know). Would love a slide out sort of bottom for easy cleaning. Any suggestions would be wonderful. email AJAAJ@optonline.net
CommentsWe live in south-east long island (patchogue) and have 2 ferrets (brothers from the same litter) and we are looking to find a good home for the two of them. Unfortunately, we can no longer keep them as with my boyfriend's 2 small children we don't let them out of their cages enough to play and feel bad. We do no want to separate them, and want to make sure they are well taken care of and get plenty of attention where ever we may send them. Any information on shelters/rescues in the area and/or interested people may contact me at Sempercordemeo@gmail.com Thank you! - Amanda -

CommentsHi, We're looking for ferret lovers that take in boarders for a week in August. We're in Long Beach, Long Island. Comet is a 6 month old male. Timid but playful. Snowy is a 2 year old albino male with a real personality that just barely survived a bad bout of ECE (most likely caught from Comet, who's as healthy as a horse). Snowy's still moving about slowly, and just started eating kibble again. The two get along, but we cage them separately, until Snowy can fend for himself if need be. We don't want to leave them with the vet, with all the barking dogs around, and we don't haver a sitter we'd be comfortable with, especialy since we were so close to losing Snowy. Hope there's a ferret lover out there that can help! Mike

Commentswho has more then 2 ferrets
CommentsFerrets need help!! I am a counseler at a camp and recently. Someone came by and dropped off 5 Ferrets That seemed to be neglected and one is very sick. The owners of the camp are NOT taking the ferrets to the vet nor do I think they have plans to. The sick ferret has major hair loss most likely from Adrenal disease and the Ferrets have not had Rabies Vacinations. I keep telling the owners that they need to take the animals to the vet with little or no response . Does anyone have any advice on how I could handle this situation.
CommentsDude are you in lindenhurst
CommentsTo the person who needs help with the 5 ferrets, please contact me at wnmlradio-mail and maybe I can give some pointers to help you persuade the owners for proper vet care.
Commentsi want a ferret and i wanted to know if i buy 1 from u guys will u deliver it to my house i live in ny, manhattan and another question is will 1 ferret be able to live alone or it will be better to buy 2 ?
CommentsOops! I forgot to give my full e-mail address. This is for the person who needs help with the 5 ferrets dropped of at the camp, and the owner is unaware of the need for a vet check. The full address is: wnmlradio-mail@yahoo.com .
CommentsTo the person from Manhattan. Ferrets are not leagl in the city and it is inadvisable to get a ferret without some background in their specific needs. Also finding a skilled veterinarian that handles ferrets is a top priority, even if you have experience. And of course proper ferret care requires money. Factor in the cage, food, litter, toys, AND then vet care, and you might find that a ferret or 2 might be cost prohibitive. You might want to consider a cat at a local shelter. There are plenty looking for the love you can provide. They are easier to keep in the city. Thank you for asking. -Phineas
CommentsI'm from Brentwood and looking to own my first ferret. From what I've read and on advice from my friends, I've decided against raising a kit, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a local shelter or rescue center (can't seem to find the adoption form on this site). I'm also looking for a local vet familiar with ferrets. Finally, I'm in the process of planning out the ferret-proofing of the main room in my apartment and was wondering how effective/long-lasting the apple bitter type sprays are at keeping furballs from gnawing on any cables I can't otherwise protect. Thanks in advance.
CommentsTo jason, in brentwood, I used Natures Miracle best behavior pet training aid, and it works very good. just spray it on every so often and they shouldnt chew or anything. its all natural and its safe.
CommentsRescued but VERY healthy ferret needs loving home. Very well behaved DOES NOT BITE! He is a 2yr. old, neutured/descented cute guy. Comes with all. New hammocks etc.. Adoption fee but negotiable to great home. Vet references will be checked. Upstate NY
Commentsall my ferrets are very health but 1 of the girls her whole back end is hairless my vet dosen't find anything wrong with her and has run many test and we still have no clue can anyone sugest something
Commentsis they any place in upstate ny where you can adopt a ferret
CommentsI just recently adopted my male FerreT from a college student. All i know about him is that he is about 6 months of age and very playful. However, nothing i do stops him from bitting my hand when i pick him up off the floor. However, hes very good being taken out of his cage Ive tried appple bitter, placing my finger deeper inside his mouth, and tapping his nose. Also, I heard giving FerreTs treats when they are being good reinforces good behavior. However, Damien (as he was named) wont eat any of them. What is this behavior about and how do i fix it
CommentsHi Krystal I help the club with the bad biting ferrets Please e-mail me at john@terref.com and I will e-mail you back my phone # I can help you with the little vampire ha-ha-ha he will be a angel in 2 or 3 weeks --- yes weeks -----

CommentsWanted to share a fuzzy funny. When I lived in NY my ferret Worf loved to steal and hide the caps off shaving cream containers. They were his favorite toys (that and Grandma's shoes!!) Anyway, he is still stealing and hiding them, but when my dad was looking under his bed a few weeks ago, he found Worf's stash!! 3 caps, blue, and purple, waiting for Worfy to visit! Too funny!
CommentsI love the ferret cage I have. It opens like cabnits and is extremely easy to clean. I got it from the ferretstore.com. It is their cage. The only thing is that the cage is better with dishes than with water bottles. You should definately check out this cage.
CommentsJessica- It was nice to see you back in New York and to attend a meeting. Keep in touch.

CommentsI've rescued ferrets for the past 9 years and now I am down to my last little girl. Mia is an albino, blind, with adrenal disease. I'm guessing she's over 3. No signs of insuloma yet. I was wondering if any of you out there have done the adrenal surgery. 3 of the 5 I've rescued were adrenals and I treated with lupron. Mia has been getting the shots as long as I've had her (this summer makes it 2 years). I'm curious to know from those who did the surgery, if the adrenal disease ever came back and if the surgery kept the insuloma from appearing. Just wondering since the cost of these shots over the years add up to almost the price of surgery. Thanks.
Commentsoh my email is kme1373@aol.com thanks for any info!
CommentsJust lost by baby ferret, Kooky, who was only 14 months. Really struggling with losing her. Can any one help us? Heartbroken.

CommentsHi, I also have a kittywalk pet stroller I only used a handful of times, mint condition asking $60 please email me tracy_one_99@yahoo.com
CommentsTo Tracy and Mave (Parrots of the World): Enjoyed talking about ferrets with both of you and hope that I enlightened you on their habits and needs. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me and I will try my best to answer them. And you are always welcome to attend our meetings. We have a great bunch of members who share a very special attachment to these loving companion pets. Good luck. Contact: wnmlradio-mail@yahoo.com
CommentsIT is a question my ferret is almost five and he has a small lump at the end of tail. I know when he was younger he got his tail caught in the door. Could it be from that.
CommentsErica-This might have something to do with your ferret's pior injury, or it may be something new. I highly suggest a vet visit to determine thecause and remedy. We have seen this before and most likely can be corrected. If you need a list of ferret knowledgeable vets feel free to e-mail me at: wnmlradio-mail@yahoo.com. -Mike
CommentsHi! Cool website! I love it! I have two ferrets presently, one I just got two weeks ago. My older ferret had a friend, but she passed on a couple months ago from colon difficulties. Is there anything I can do to try to prevent that from happening with this new ferret?
CommentsI am 16 years old and currently have one ferret, her name is meeko and she is about 8 months old. She has been through everything in the house and can't find anything else to do. She easily gets tried of toys and games that I play with her, I was wondering about getting another ferret for her to play with so my questions are: Should I get the same age ferret? Would they easily get along? Should I get a Male or female? Thanks! :D
CommentsI sent an email on friday but haven't heard anything. I need to find out how to put my fuzzies up for adoption should I need to. I have very bad allergies which I control with medication and shots. I recently started getting worse regarding the ferrets. I can barely take them out for 30 minutes before itching and sneezing. I have a 4 year old son who was just diagnosed with allergies as well and has been having wheezing when near them. I love them and am not sure if adoption is the right thing at this point. Any advice would be appreciated.
CommentsI live in San Diego and i'm a nervous wreck my ferret's been missing 7 days now because i trusted a friend to look after him and he snuck out somhow. Commentsim afraid of my sisters ferret and it got out of its cage i need to get it back in but im afraid to pick it up and it keepos running towards me...
CommentsA member referred me to this site, thanks honey! Cute story: A local teen had a ferret she never took care of and eventhough I thought they were simply a rodent I told her to bring LIzabeth to me. WELL.... this little girl would quietly sit still in my arms for hours if I let her. The dog LOVEd her and she got along with the cats. She used to walk up to Gigger (dog) and TRIP over him, now he was 20 times her size so this alleged trip was simply a ploy! She'd trip, looked shocked, run like the wind with the dog in tow. Suddenly she swing around and Gigger would 'maul' her with his CHIN! Oh lordy..... how she loved it! She used to cuddle in the cat bed and use one of them as a pillow! How I miss that girl. Nice site guys, keep up the good work! Grandpakeith
CommentsWe have two females and one male. We adopted one female first then got another female for companionship. The first female had a brother in the pet store that was never picked up and we felt bad he spent so much time in the pet store. He was fine at first but after he got comfortable with us, he became aggressive. I have tried to handle him but he seems to just bite us for no reason. My daughter is very afraid of him and hasn't played with any of the ferrets because of the one. We need to find a home for the male. He is about two years old. I think with the right training, someone can enjoy his company. But my 9 year old daughter can't handle him. Please let us know if you can help us.
CommentsWe have a male two year old healthy ferret that needs a home. He bites sometimes and my daughter is afraid of him. I think he spent too much time in the pet store and has not gotten used to us. Please tell me where I can bring him.

CommentsHello, I have a 3 year old cute little faced ferret. I have taken care of her since she was tiny baby. She is healthy and has lovely behavior. She loves to play with people. I love her so much but I live alone and stay only for few hours at home. She recently lost her company and she seems too lonely. I cannot get any more ferrets under my circumstance. If there is someone who is familiar with ferrets and want to adopt my ferret please contact me. I can send her picture through email. My email: sokmyou@yahoo.com Thank you for reading my story.

CommentsI have 2 female ferrets and I got them for my 7th b-day. When they where little I would be able to call them by their names to get their attention. Now they just look at me and then runaway. I want to be able to call there names so if I don't see them and they hear their names they know something is going on. Also they never let me put clothes on them and I want to start making albums so I need some help their too. Thank you.

CommentsJocelyn and Stephanie-feel free to e-mail me and I will forward my phone number to you. Maybe I can help. I have been with AFC since it's humble beginings and have dealt with these issues. Better yet, why not join us at this month's meeting? Check the calendar, as it is usually on the last Saturday of the month. Admission is free. Plenty of people who have as much (or more) experience as me. These issues are easily handled with patience and knowing how to communicate with your ferret(s). Mike (wnmlradio-mail@yahoo.com)
CommentsHey Everyone, I need help with one of my ferrets. I recently rescued him off of Craigslist and he seemed to be the perfect guy. Now he bites my four other ferrets to the point where they bleed. Can someone please contact me at JLMCKN@aol.com with some kind of solution? I have tried separating him, but he gets depressed when he's not with everyone else

CommentsI live in ny and currently have one ferret. I'm Looking to adpot one or maybe even two more. If anyone is looking to have their ferret adopted you can email me prmami1229@Yahoo.com
CommentsI am doing some research on the effects of insuloma. My one ferret was recently diagnosed and although I am very familar with the disease, I am researching why ferrets won't eat or drink on their own. This is the second experience I have had with the disease and both ferrets would only eat or drink when food was prepared for them, so I know it's not because they are spoiled, I just can't find any info on the subject and the vets don't seem to know either. Thanks

CommentsIf you are not getting a response on this board, please e-mail me at the following address: carpetshark@localnet.com . I will try to reply with the advice you need. This organization, like others, is all volunteer. I check my e-mails often, and can help with advice. Ferret trained since 1992. Club member since 1997. Most of you may not be aware that our meetings are free. This is where many ideas are shared. How many times I find myself learning more, especially about proper medical care. If you need a quick reply, a phone number in an e-mail will help. For security reasons, it is suggested that you receive an e-mail from me before giving ANY personal information. DO NOT post this information in Ferret Talk. -Mike

Commentscan Humans catch this ADV from ferrets? Thank you
Commentsi have two ferrets right now one a little older and one not even a year old yet and i was wondering if anyone knows where i can find a ferret around one to two years old that isnt completely expensive. if so if you could email me at lilsexynell87@aol.com that would be great thanks Danielle
CommentsAs discussed at the last AFC meeting, Ferret magazine, which stopped publication recently, will send you a refund check for the remainder of your subscription if you call their 800 number. I received my check within three weeks. I also told them it was poor public relations to try to switch us to another pet magazine. The CSR also told me that the magazine was being discontinued due to poor circulation numbers but they were going to have a website for Ferret magazine.
CommentsI have a Ferret that was real sick today and I took her to the vet. The vet said that she was dehydrated and probably had insuloma. Her blood sugar was at 23. The vet says that this is very low. She gave Missy fluids and gave her syrup to bring the sugar level up. She said that the Ferret was probably to withstand a surgury. We did not do any tests to find out if she had insuloma or adrenal disease. It is too expensive. So, she said just to take Missy home feed her plenty of sugar and hope for the best. I am so depressed that money makes the diferrence between life and death. My dream is to start a program to help people who can't afford surgury or meds. I currently volunteer for Animeals an organization that delivers food and helps wih shots and neutering. But this organization does not have the funds to help our furry friends who need other medical care. Do you have first of all a plan that you could share with me to help my Missy. Somehow just feeding her lots of sugar does not seem to be the answer. And I am afraid that she won't make it much longer. There is a hugh diferrence between how she is now after her visit to the doctor and how she was when I took her to the vet. Missy was evidently having a seizure and I thought for sure that she would be dead before I could get her to the doc. Missy is a rescued Ferret and we believed that she was one year old when I got her. I have had her for six years. And during that time she has been well. This problem seems to be getting worse recently. Please share with me any information on how I can take care of Missy. Thank you louetta

CommentsI have owned 3 ferrets and have had bad luck with them. My first Ferret (at age 15), Bandit, was at work with me and the new girl sold him while I was helping the manager with something. My other 2 have passed from Cancer. I am a mother now and my children have been bugging me for another ferret. Our two passed away from Cancer so it is very upsetting for me. Is there any way to prevent cancer in ferrets? Is it possible to find a breeder in Long Island, NY? I so badly want to know history on a ferret I would be adopting, and a petstore doesn't work for me anymore. Could someone give me information about cancers in ferrets and if there is a way to help prevent it.. and if there is a way to adopt a ferret from a reputable breeder? Thank you!
CommentsPlease adopt our male 4 year old healthy ferret. We have a cage. FREE He needs lots of attention and some training which he's not getting. slwags@aol.com

CommentsI've had multiple ferrets in the past 7 years. AGAIN, I'm experiencing the adrenal disease issue. After 2 times of spending the money on surgery, I can not afford it a third time. Any advice? Also, in research this time around I've discovered a lot of solid facts stating the main cause of adrenal disease is from being spayed or neutered so soon after birth. I was just wondering if any one heard the same.

CommentsI have 4 beautiful ferrets. 3 female 1 male. Ages approx 4yrs - 2 yrs in age. The older female approx 3 yrs old has been losing the hair on her back and has little to no undercoating. I have an appt with Dr Grey for the end of the month due to Dr Grey's vaca that was the soonest I could get her in. I was just wondering if any one else has has this type of hair loss situation. I have read about adrenal gland disorder and that hair loss is at the base of the tail which my girl does not have. Also she is very happy and is not presenting with any other symptoms please respond if you can help me. Thank you.

CommentsHii :) I have two ferrets, boy and girl. My boy is very big (fat) and my girl is VERY small, I saved them both from a bad home and I've brought them back to health. As of right now I don't have a job nor a car, so I don't really have the money or transportation to get them help.... I just have a few question that im hoping someone can help me with. 1. My boy ferret has been sleeping a lot, more then usual, It just worries me because he'll be play and just pass out in the middle of the floor tired. I'm not sure if he's just out of shape or just old. My only worry is that it might be adrenal disease :/ 2. When I got them both, My girl ferret had no hair AT ALL on her tail, I became worried because I know hair loss is a part of adrenal disease. I looked it up online it said its common in ferret to lose there hair in the summer time and that it was called "rat tail". I started giving them vitamins everyday for their fur.... months go by and she has lost almost all her fur, she's practically naked :( I really don't think she has adrenal because she's SUPPER hyper, and she never sleep, she's the sweetest thing ever.... one thing I don;t like is that she doesn't eat much. 3. My last question :) My boy ferret has been recently bitting my girl ferret, I have no idea is its "sexually" but he will mont her an bit her on the back of her left ear. She will whipper and I will separate them, but she always go's back running to him. I wasn't very worried about it until I noticed she had puncher wounds all over the back of her left ear and now no hairs grows there..... Now when my boy ferret does this I'll grab from him from the back of his neck an shake him (not hard) and say NO! its a loud tone (I heard that ferret mothers do that to their babies when they do something wrong) p.s. Im not sure if my ferrets have ear mites, but both their ears are COMPLETELY filthy! It doesn't seem to bother them, only when I clean it...... I clean them both with ferret ear cleaner and I then use Q-tips.... but It doesn't really do the job :/ But if anyone cant help me answer these question, I will appreciate it VERY VERY VERY much :D thank you....
